What: Introducing beautiful knitted items from Boise’s refugee community
Where: Home of Jan Bastian, 4492 Keldoon
When: Thursday, December 10th, 4 PM to 7 PM
Some background on this project: A year ago, Shannon Davis-Jones from the IRC (International Rescue Committee) started a knitting group with women from Bhutan who had been in Nepalese refugee camps for over 17 years. Master knitters Joan Cloonan and Myrna Stahman stepped forward to provide instruction, along with many other volunteers. Donations from some of the finest yarn manufacturers nationally started pouring in and “Bhutan Bunnu” (Bhutanese for knitting) was born. The results are beautiful, reasonably priced, one-of-a-kind scarves, hats, and felted bags. 100% of the proceeds go back to the individual knitters. This supplemental income has proven to be a godsend to these families in this dire employment environment.
Join us for wine, light appetizers and holiday cheer on Thursday. Feel free to send this along to anyone you know that may be interested.
Happy Holidays!
