Tax Reminder for IRC Refugees

REMINDER:   IRC-Boise continues to do taxes for our families up until Thursday, April 15th.  We have seven terrific volunteers who have gone through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program training and are available three days a week, by appointment only.  We also have a volunteer VITA site coordinator who is steeped in tax law and procedures, earned income and tax credits, and oversees the on-line IRS tax program used by the volunteers.  We transmit returns on-line too.

Please encourage anyone with whom you volunteer to contact Joanie at the IRC office to schedule an appointment.  Each taxpayer will be told what to bring in specifically to make the appoinment go quickly and smoothly.  NOTE:  Because of the IRS's definition of "resident", those refugees who have only been in the States for a partial part of the 2009 may not receive the full benefit of all credits.  This will be explained during the appointment.  Lastly, when given an appointment, those not having a full command of language will be asked to bring an interpreter.

Thanks for passing this information on!  So many of our clients did not want to wait for the IRC FREE tax service and have spent needless $$ at private tax companies.  Thanks!
