Today I met with a really amazing family from Burma. Coincidentally they have three boys that are almost the same ages as my own three boys. I felt a connection between the family and myself very quickly, a lot can be said with out words. I feel very thankful to be able to make new friends and help out fellow man. I am really looking forward to learning more about this special family and sharing life experiences here in Boise. I welcome any ideas of fun activities and communication tools that I can share with the family. Thank you Joanie for your kindness and your devotion to help so many people, you really are a blessing to all:) Until next time,
Tracy

Tracy,
I have found that a dictionary is a must have. If you look on amazon.com and then search for English-Burmese Dictionary, you will find a whole host of resources. You can get a pocket dictionary for a very good price (Starting at about $8.95) and then they go up from there. They almost always offer used versions as well, so check that out to save some cash. There is also a website that offers online teaching of Burmese language skills. If you were interested in that, the website is: www.seasite.niu.edu/Burmese/language.htm. Also, there is a free online dictionary located at: www.burmese-dictionary.org. Lastly, there are many websites that provides free downloads that you could print out to help practice English skills. One such site is: www.iowa.gov/educate. It has a quite an array to choose from. Good luck and see you at the volunteer meeting on the 20th!

Thank you so much Jodi:) I really appreciate all the great ideas. I will start by getting the dictionary, thank you again, Tracy
Hi Tracy, I have been working with a Burundi family. I got flash cards from Idaho School and
Book Supply on Chinden. Some of the cards are too esoteric for refugees but if you group them (kitchen, clothes, animals, etc.) it seems to work well. We took the family to the zoo last summer and they enjoyed it. Also, the son (age 13) loves to learn everything he can about my car and how it works and the names for everything. Hope that helps, thank you for the great work! Kary Burin
